The environmental impact of petroleum-based, non-biodegradable coatings used in single-use paperboard packaging is significant. Annually, around three million tons of these coatings are produced globally, contaminating paperboard recycling streams and often ending up in incinerators, landfills, or the natural environment.

To address this issue, we have partnered with leading materials technology company, Xampla to bring to you Morro™ Coating, a plastic-free, plant protein alternative to PFAS, known as 'forever chemicals' and plastic coatings. The material is exempt from the Single-Use Plastic Directive.

Our partnership with Xampla allows us to manufacture an exclusive range of plastic-free coatings at scale and build on our existing expertise in chemical manufacturing, supply and distribution to bring real game-changing solutions to the industry.

Made from plants, Morro™ Coating can be recycled in normal paper streams. Even if highly soiled, the coating can be composted at home or in industrial streams. The coating is fully biodegradable and home compostable and is safe for food contact whilst offering high strength, grease, moisture and oxygen resistance.
